Kuala Lumpur, Feb 9 (RHC)-- A Cuban delegation headed by Dr. Anelys Marichal, Director General of Territorial Planning and Urbanism of Cuba, is participating in the 9th World Urban Forum that was inaugurated Thursday in Malaysia and runs through Tuesday, February 13th.

The Cuban representatives spoke in the parallel segment, about the theme "Implementation of the new urban agenda" where they gave Cuba's experience and highlighted the fact that the country was able to produce, in one year, a national action plan for achieving this important agenda, which is taxed with the sustainable development of cities, and is consistent with sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

The 9th World Urban Forum takes place under the theme "Cities 2030, Cities for all: Implementation of the New Urban Agenda" and  173 countries are participating. It is taking place for the first time in Malaysia and the second time in Asia, with China being the first country to host it in 2008.

The world urban forum has a non-legislative technical character and has been convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) since 2002.

It is recognized as the world's leading arena for interaction between policymakers, local governments, non-governmental organizations and expert professionals in the field of sustainable urban development and human settlements.
