Cuba and United States Hold Technical Exchange on Trafficking in Persons and Child Sexual Abuse

Washington, February 15 (RHC-Minrex) --  On Wednesday, a first technical exchange was held in Washington D.C. between Cuban and United States authorities charged with the prevention of, and combat against, trafficking in persons and child sexual abuse. This exchange falls within the context of the law enforcement dialogue between both countries.

During the meeting, both parties talked about experiences gained in the prevention of, and combat against these crimes, the common challenges they face, and the cooperative actions that need to be coordinated between the relevant authorities of both countries.

The Cuban representatives emphasized their zero-tolerance policy and discussed the main actions undertaken by the country in the combat against the trafficking in persons and child sexual abuse. Both delegations shared the view to strengthen bilateral cooperation and to increase the coordination of actions to ensure resolute action against these crimes and those who commit them.

The Cuban delegation was composed of representatives of the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, while the U.S. delegation was composed of officials of the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice and State.

Both delegations shared the view on the importance to continue holding these technical exchanges in the future and to coordinate the next steps to contribute to the prevention of, and combat against, these crimes.
