Geneva, May 31 (RHC)-- Cuba is participating in Geneva at the 107th International Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which will run until June 8 with the attendance of around 5000 delegates.

A founding member of the ILO, Cuba attends this meeting annually - like the other 186 members - with tripartite delegations: representatives of the government, trade unions and employers, who take part in the debates of the conference's broad agenda and share experiences on the achievements and challenges of the country in labor matters.

The Minister of Labor and Social Security of Cuba, Margarita González, will join the delegation in the coming days to head the government delegation.

On this occasion, the Conference will hold a high-level debate on the world of work that will deal with the importance of employment and decent work for peace and resilience, from the perspective of on-the-ground experiences and fruitful collaborative partnerships. It will also address the challenges involved in sustaining peace, providing opportunities in the world of work, especially for young people.

Moreover, the working committees of the Conference will examine the effectiveness of the organization's contribution to development cooperation, violence and harassment against women and men in the workplace, as well as the strategic objective of social dialogue and tripartism, under the monitoring of the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, agreed in 2008.

Next to celebrate its centenary in 2019, the ILO will focus on issues such as the initiative for the equality of women at work; the need to end child labor and improve the safety and health of young workers in the world.

The ILO is an organization with a unique integration that makes it the only one in the United Nations system with a tripartite structure, allowing representatives of workers and employers to participate in its work on an equal footing with governments.
