Manzanillo, June 27 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has begun a visit to the eastern province of Granma, the first to that territory since he took office last April 19.
Accompanied by the province's top authorities, the Cuban president arrived Wednesday morning at La Demajagua National Park in the municipality of Manzanillo. The park preserves the ruins of the mill of the same name where the Father of the Nation, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, launched the independence struggle on October 10, 1868.
The premises of the park are under renovation in preparation for the 150th anniversary of that historic event.
The Cuban leader made a similar visit to Santiago de Cuba last week, where he checked firsthand the progress achieved in that province, held meetings with local authorities and spoke with area residents.
