Washington, August 22 (RHC)-- Solidarity-with-Cuba activists in the United States are organizing in Washington, DC a week of protests and public denunciations of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

Alicia Jrapko, coordinator of the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity, told Prensa Latina news agency that preparations are underway for what will be the fourth time that a week of actions will be held in the U.S. capital in opposition of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

The activist said that this year's events will focus on the impact of Washington's almost 60 year-old economic, commercial and financial stranglehold it has had in the field of education in Cuba.

Jrapko said events are being scheduled from September 24th to the 28th in Washington, DC.  She said among the activities planned are the screening of the documentary Maestra, or Teacher, dealing with the way in which, early after the Revolution, Cuba was able to teach all its citizens how to read and write.  She said a second documentary on the battle for public education in Puerto Rico will also be shown.

Alicia Jrapko noted that education in Cuba is free and is a human right, while in a country as rich as the United States, schools are closed and people have to spend huge amounts of money for the education of their children.
