Havana, September 4 (RHC)-- Renowned Cuban writer Abel Prieto has been sworn in as the Director of the Office of the José Martí Program, that promotes the works of Cuba’s National Hero, José Martí.
The ceremony took place at the Center for Martí Studies in the Vedado neighborhood of Havana. In his acceptance speech, Abel prieto praised the job done by his predecessor, the late Armando Hart, who headed the program for two decades. In adopting his new post, Abel Prieto spoke of the challenge posed by exposing and interpreting the writings of José Martí to the children, adolescents and young people of Cuba.
Alpidio Alfonso, recently appointed as Cuba’s Minister of Culture, also speaking at the ceremony, said that the work being done at the José Martí cultural program ought to be supported by all Cuban cultural institutions.
