Moscow, March 6 (RHC)--  Russia rejected Tuesday the partial application by the United States of Title III of the anti-Cuban extraterritorial law Helms-Burton and considered that the measure demands a joint response from all of those who defend international law.

In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina news agency, the director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Schetinin, said the United States has openly declared its aggressive plans against Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, as part of the application of the Monroe Doctrine.

He also blasted Washington´s announcement this week on the implementation of Tittle III of the Helms-Burton Act on a large number of Cuban companies.

The Russian diplomat  commented that the Monroe Doctrine, to which the National Security Advisor of the White House, John Bolton, recently referred to , has undergone a quite peculiar development in the past months.

“Only a year ago, we perceived this doctrine as a concept long ago forgotten, but its principles are being resurrected,  academically and politically”, he added.

“According to Mr. Bolton, the Monroe Doctrine is a source of pride and an unquestionable part of U.S. foreign policy, a guide to building Washington's ties with Latin America”, Schetinin explained.

The Monroe Doctrines dates back to1823. It has been use over the years by US administrations as an excuse for US military interventions in Latin American countries.
