Havana, July 24 (RHC)—Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is in Cuba on an official visit.

On Wednesday, the top Russian diplomat will hold talks with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, on the most important issues on bilateral, international and regional agendas.  Lavrov also plans to have several meetings with other Cuban leaders.

In an interview in Moscow with representatives of Latin American Media and Actualidad RT, the Russian foreign minister reiterated his country’s stance on the US blockade.   “By imposing a trade embargo on Cuba, through Title III of the Helms-Burton Law, the United States has once again shown the world its disregard for international law,” he said.

He recalled that over 190 nations vote each year for a resolution demanding the lifting of the blockade, and the United States is usually alone or with two or three of its closest allies in the vote against the document.   "I see no future for such a policy,” he stressed.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, after his stay in Cuba, Lavrov will visit Suriname and will also attend the meeting of foreign ministers from Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa (BRICS) scheduled for July 25-26 in Rio de Janeiro.
