Latin American School of Medicine graduates close to 500 new professionals

Havana, July 24 (RHC)-- Nearly 500 doctors from 84 countries received their degrees from the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) on Tuesday.   The 15th graduation of the prestigious international center took place at the Karl Marx Theater in Havana.

 

The School’s Dean congratulated the graduates who have now joined the ranks of more than 29,000 doctors from 115 who studied at ELAM and are currently serving in countries on five continents.   Dr. Patric Delly, Director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Haiti and President of the International ELAM’s Graduate Society, congratulated the new doctors, whose graduation takes place on the 20th anniversary of the medical training center.

 

Ismael Issaka, an outstanding graduate from the Republic of Niger, thanked Cuba for opening its arms, even in the most adverse circumstances and on behalf of his peers pledged to take health care to the farthest corners of the world with the solid knowledge acquired in Cuba.

 

On hand for the ceremony was U.S. activist and actor Danny Glover who thanked Cuba for the creation of ELAM. 

 

During the ceremony, Cuban Public Health Minister José Ángel Portal Miranda highlighted the importance of School founded by Fidel Castro that opened its doors to young people without resources from around the world and noted the training of high quality professionals.
