Havana, August 24 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has urged education authorities to eliminate the hurdles that prevent investments on the sector to expand exports.

During a meeting with authorities from the Ministries of Education (MINED) and Higher Education (MES), the president learned that among the main obstacles to investment is the shortage of qualified personnel.

He called for the strengthening and diversification of exports of goods and services and the substitution of imports, tasks that cannot be postponed due to the complex economic situation the country is experiencing.

Diaz-Canel was informed that MINED has collaboration agreements with 16 countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Australia, while it will produce audiovisuals and didactic toys to promote exports.

The expansion, through the use of new technologies, of the recognized literacy program Yo, sí puedo (Yes, I Can) is also part of the entity's plans.

For its part, the Ministry of Higher Education is teaching undergraduate and graduate courses to foreigners and is hosting international scientific events.
