Havana, October 4 (RHC)-- The President of the Government of Russia, Dmitri Medvedev, received on Friday an honorary doctorate in Political Science from the University of Havana -UH-, in a ceremony held in the Aula Magna of that house of higher studies.

The ceremony was attended by Cuban Vice President Roberto Morales Ojeda, Miriam Nicado, President of the University, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Cuba, professors, students and members of the delegation that accompanied Medvedev on his official visit to Cuba.

Among the attributes that made Medvedev worthy of such a high academic distinction Nicado mentioned his outstanding intellectual activity and important contributions to the understanding of political phenomena and processes at the national and international levels.

After reading the Resolution that described the reasons that made Medvedev eligible to receive the academic recognition conferred by the UH, its president summarized the political trajectory of the current Russian Prime Minister.

“He was elected President of the Eurasian nation in 2008 (until 2012), becoming the youngest president of that country since 1917.

"Along with his outstanding political career, Medvedev has so far demonstrated an appreciable intellectual activity, which has served as a basis for his practical performance," stated in her address the Rector of Havana University.

Another of the aspects highlighted was his leadership in the international arena in defense of the strategic alliance between Cuba and Russia, and his support to the Caribbean nation in confronting the permanent aggression of successive U.S. governments.
