Havana, October 10 (RHC)-- The president of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, assured this October 10 that the Cuban Revolution will preserve its convictions together with its people, even under the threats of the United States.

In his inauguration speech, after being elected by an absolute majority of Parliament, the dignitary stressed that the more they threaten Cuba, the more unity will grow among its people, and he pointed to the high moral and dignity of the political process of the largest island of the Antilles.

Diaz-Canel added that with the election, a new stage of work is beginning for the representatives of the State and the Government, which will demand from each leader the willingness to abandon obsolete practices and cumbersome mechanisms.

" We are living in new times in all aspects of life, and they demand a different way of thinking. We have to change everything that needs to be changed, as Fidel told us, as Raúl showed us during his years at the helm of the presidency and as our first secretary of the Party," he emphasized.

The Cuban president criticized the neoliberal governments of countries gathered at the Organization of American States, which, while they attack Venezuela; do not bother for the fate of their people.

Referring to Cuba's domestic situation, he noted that while the island withstand Washington´s prolonged siege,  it will welcome international solidarity in the coming days, in allusion to the anti-imperialist meeting for democracy and against neoliberalism, which will take place from November 1 to 3 in Havana.

Referring to the situation in Cuba, he said that, under conditions of prolonged siege by Washington, there is support in the existing structures and the new responsibilities that are acquired.

"The Council of State will function with higher frequency and impact on the National Assembly of People's Power," Díaz-Canel said.

He pointed out that there are indispensable laws to exercise government that require a quick review, approval, and implementation, which he described as a commitment since the current Magna Carta was approved.

He indicated that by 2020, the Cuban government will strengthen lines of work and priority programs for the consolidation of the economy in areas such as exports, foreign investment, housing construction, food production, tourism, transportation, and renewable sources of energy.

As for the situation created by the refusal of the United States to allow fuel to enter Cuba, the President of the Republic ratified that the island will return to normality, but it will maintain savings at the core of policies, it will look for efficiency, and systematization of solutions.

Diaz-Canel argued that technological and knowledge advances that can turn savings into an engine of development will be taken into consideration

In concluding his remarks, Miguel Diaz-Canel stated that intense and challenging days are awaiting the new leadership, but he stressed that no one is going to deprive Cubans of their hopes for the future
