Cuban president heads government visit to Guantanamo province

Guantánamo, November 15 (RHC)—Cuban president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, led Thursday the second government visit to Guantanamo to evaluate the progress of prioritized socio-economic programs in the province.

The governmental delegation includes Vice Presidents Salvador Valdés Mesa, Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés, Inés María Chapman, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca and Roberto Morales Ojeda, as well as ministers and vice ministers.

In the municipality of Caimanera, first stop of the visit, Diaz-Canel assessed the housing situation, health care services, and the local food self-sufficiency program, among other issues.

The president praised the people of  Caimanera, and described them as heroic, stating that Cuba can only count on them. Caimanera is the closed Cuban territory to the territory illegally occupied by the United States Naval Base.

Diaz Canel and his delegation also visited the University of Guantanamo and highlighted its participation in local development.

The government visit to Guantánamo, concluding this Friday,  seeks to find solutions to current problems and promote initiatives to promote the economic and social development of the island's easternmost  province.
