Cuban President evaluates the progress of education programs

Havana, February 10 (RHC)--The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, evaluated in Havana the progress of the educational programs in the country.

The meeting examined the Comparative-Explanatory Regional Study coordinated by the Latin American Laboratory for the Evaluation of the Quality of Education.

The first two studies (1997 and 2006) included Cuba, while the fourth study was applied on May 30 and 31, 2019 to third and sixth-grade students in 251 primary schools in the country.

National and International observers took part in the process. Sixth-grade students achieved the best results, and in the subject of Spanish Language.

The meeting also examined suggestions for the gradual introduction of automation and robotics at different levels of education in the Caribbean island.

The experiences of 'Enrique José Varona' Higher Pedagogical Institute, the universities of Pinar del Río, Oriente, Central de Las Villas and 'José Antonio Echeverría' University City (Cujae) were taken into account.

The technology park 'Finca de los Monos' is preparing the first courses (eight weeks) to introduce children to the world of robotics, which will be ready in April.

During the conference, the President also followed up on the agreements made at the 9th Congress of the University Student Federation, held in July 2018.
