Havana, February 17(RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez met over the weekend with the director of the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE) and president of the Association of Spanish Language Academies (ASALE), Santiago Muñoz Machado.

Muñoz Machado, who has been the director of the RAE since January 2019, visited the Historical Center of Havana on Sunday. This Monday he is expected to meet Cuban jurists at the University of Havana, where he will be received by the rector, Miriam Nicado.

The Spanish academic will also participate in the presentation of the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of Legal Spanish, of his authorship, which will take place in the Faculty of Law of Havana University.

Muñoz Machado said that he feels admired by the work of the Cuban Language Academy and expressed: "I have just received the reports of the work of the Cuban academy and really the word that comes out best for me is admirable, they have an exemplary dedication despite the fact that resources are always scarce," he said.

The scholar was invested as a corresponding member of the Academy of the Language of Cuba, whose certificate he received from the hands of its director, Rogelio Rodríguez Coronel.

"We must maintain the most important cultural honor our countries have, which is a language spoken by 580 million people in the world," Muñoz said.

Cuba is the first stop on a working trip by the RAE director who will soon visit Panama, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic.
