United Nations, May 2 (RHC) -- Cuba has denounced at the United Nations the recently uncovered Zunzuneo, a secret project developed by the United States to destabilize the Cuban government through messages sent to cell phones on the island.

Cuba presented the case at the group of 77 plus China, a bloc made up of 133 developing countries.

On Tuesday, April 29th, Cuban acting ambassador at the United Nations, Oscar Leon, informed the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) about Zunzuneo, a subversive initiative funded by Washington with millions of U.S. tax dollars.

During the meeting of the Movement, comprised of 120 nations, the diplomat demanded that the U.S. government abide by international law and the UN Charter and put an end to illegal and covert actions against Cuba.

During the NAM meeting, Belarus, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Syria, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and Venezuela, among others, expressed their support for Cuba and their deep concern over the wrongful use of information and communication technologies for destabilizing foreign governments.

Operating for more than two years and boasting tens of thousands of subscribers, ZunZuneo was a mobile phone-based social network developed under the Obama administration to promote anti-government protests in Cuba.

The program was secretly backed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through a myriad of shell companies and offshore bank accounts.
