Paris, June 25 (RHC)-- In its World Education Report 2020, UNESCO recognized Cuba's policies to guarantee inclusive and quality education.

The 400-page text was released Wednesday in Paris, France.  The document, known by its acronym GEM, highlights the island's leadership in the sector, based on achievements among which it cites 100 percent of schooling in the pre-school stage, evaluating initiatives like the Educate Your Child program, which offers alternatives to children from rural and mountainous areas or with disabilities.

With almost 30 years of implementation, the program enables the family to prepare the children in the conditions of the home, so that they can enter the education system without any impact on learning.

The report entitled "Inclusion and Education: All, Without Exception" also highlights the work of Cuba in the area of sex education and HIV/AIDS prevention, by incorporating the subject through core curricula, optional subjects and postgraduate courses, with a gender and sexual rights approach.

The Permanent Mission of Cuba to UNESCO highlighted the recognition of the Caribbean country in the report, aimed at addressing the progress of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal related to education in the Agenda 2030 adopted by the UN in September 2015.

He also recalled in a statement that these results of the island are the result of the political will of the government to ensure education as a fundamental human right, despite the impact of the economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States for six decades and its intensification by the current administration.
