Havana, July 25 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez congratulated the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba on the occasion of its 505th anniversary.
"Congratulations to our Santiago, cradle of heroes and heroines, forge of the Revolution and the rebellion; home of music and link with the Caribbean. In 505 years of history and 67 years since the Historic Assault, its lights confirm what Fidel said: "Victory will always await us here," the President wrote on Twitter.
On Friday evening, the Céspedes Park in downtown Santiago was the venue of a celebration awaiting the new anniversary of the city, which included the official inauguration of a new lighting system, highlighting the park's surrounding buildings, among them the Cathedral and the former City Hall.
From one of the City Hall balconies, Fidel Castro proclaimed the triumph of the Revolution in the early hours of January 1, 1959.
