Havana, August 11 (RHC)--Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel reiterated on Monday his call to reinforce measures of social isolation on the island to prevent outbreaks of COVID-19, given the increase in positive cases of the disease in Havana.

The meeting of the temporary working group for confronting the pandemic analyzed the complicated epidemiological situation in Havana, and the 93 cases confirmed on Sunday, the highest number ever registered on the island in one day since the pandemic began five months ago.

"We have analyzed, mapped, and looked for a correlation between the events that have occurred, and once again life confirms that when all the necessary measures are not taken,  when social behavior violates those measures and especially when that occurs in places with crowds, outbreaks appear," said Diaz-Canel.

He said that clusters then become locally transmitted events that, if not correctly monitored, cause a higher number of infections.

The president once again called for discipline from the inhabitants of Havana and Artemisa and urged to maintain the measures implemented in the rest of the Cuban provinces, which are going through the third recovery phase of the Covid-19.

Of the record 93 cases, Havana reported 76, distributed in 12 of its 15 municipalities.
