Havana, August 31 (RHC)--The National Director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Public Health Ministry, Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia, said that 59 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 on the island over the last 24 hours.

Speaking at the daily media briefing on the disease on Monday, Duran noted that the island continues performing over PCR molecular biology tests daily and that Havana, the epicenter of the epidemic on the Caribbean island, had some 4 thousand samples processed.

40 of the newly diagnosed patients were from Havana, followed by Artemisa with 15 cases.

No fatalities were reported on Sunday, 51 patients were discharged, 8 patients in critical and 14 patients in serious condition.

The Cuban expert noted that an important spread remains in some parts of the country.

“This is what makes that from tomorrow on, the province of Havana will implement a group of measures that already known. That together with the participation of our population and the agencies under the leadership of the party, the government and its defense councils at all levels, we are sure that this will allow for these unfavorable indicators to be reversed in a relatively short time,” said Doctor Duran.
