Day of the Victims of State Terrorism, October 6th.

Havana, October 6 (RHC)-- Cuba is in mourning today -- the Day of the Victims of State Terrorism -- as it remembers the more than 3,400 people who died as a result of the United States' aggressions against the island.

Traditionally, the date is commemorated with a pilgrimage to the Christopher Columbus Necropolis in this capital city to the pantheon of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.  This site pays homage to the 73 Cubana de Aviación passengers who lost their lives on October 6, 1976 in the well-known Barbados Crime, an act of sabotage organized by terrorists Luis Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch, at the service of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

According to the document "Demand of the Cuban People to the U.S. Government for Economic Damages," Washington's covert operations began in 1959, and since then thousands of acts of sabotage have been organized, executed and financed.

In these six decades, a long list of terrorist actions to damage the Cuban Revolution has been added, including, in addition to economic, military, biological, psychological, diplomatic, media and espionage attacks, attempts to assassinate Cuba's leaders.

The commemoration of the Day of the Victims of State Terrorism is endorsed by Decree-Law No. 279 of the Council of State, which also establishes that every October 6, the Cuban flag shall be flown at half-mast, either in civil entities and military institutions, or in Cuban diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
