Havana, November 10 (RHC)-- The eastern Cuban province of Granma has suffered considerable damage on roads, agriculture, and housing due to the heavy rains from tropical storm Eta.

A partial assessment report 79 families had damage in their walls and roofs, and some of their housing collapsed partially or totally, primarily in Manzanillo, Campechuela, and Niquero municipalities.

Federico Hernández, president of the Popular Defence Council CDP, called for urgent and tireless work on recovery and special attention to the supply of food and alternatives for the entry, exit, and evacuation of possible patients in those places that remain isolated or whose roads are very deteriorated.

He considered the roads' situation, in general, to be very complicated since many of the repair actions that need to be undertaken require specialized equipment and fuel.

Among the most complex cases are settlements such as Secadero, in Manzanillo, which was cut off due to a bridge's collapse. The mountain community of Mompié, in Bartolomé Masó, has been inaccessible for three days due to a landslide.

This situation also prevents the passage of linemen to re-establish electricity service.

Another significant damage to roads, bridges, and sewers was reported from Media Luna and Campechuela, the latter of which alerted to damage to roads of interest for the next sugar harvest.

The Provincial Electric Company is working uninterruptedly to resolve service interruptions in several municipalities, some 86 until the afternoon-evening of this Monday, and continues monitoring numerous overflown rivers, such as Cauto, Jicotea, and Buey.
