Havana, November 24 (RHC)-- The permanent delegate of Cuba to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Yahima Esquivel, expressed Tuesday in Paris the island's support for the development of artificial intelligence from an ethical and inclusive approach.

Speaking in a virtual forum convened by the organization, the ambassador insisted on the importance of this branch of computer science to highlight the value of solidarity and life in harmony for the benefit of humanity, sustainable development, and peace.

According to the Cuban diplomat, UNESCO plays a fundamental role in promoting the modern tool's ethical use and reducing the digital and technological gaps to avoid that the progress aggravates, even more, the inequalities among countries.

Esquivel urged that efforts be maintained to combat discriminatory biases present in the new digital tools so that artificial intelligence does not reinforce stigmas and prejudices, with a particular impact on minorities and the most vulnerable groups in society.

The delegate participated in the online event in her capacity as president of the Latin American and Caribbean Group ( GRULAC) in the United Nations entity in charge of education, science, and culture.

UNESCO's Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, installed the meeting, which experts and ambassadors from various countries attended.
