Havana, January 11 (RHC) While the world is still shocked by the Trump-sponsored mob breach of the U.S. Capitol and the impeachable behavior of the outgoing U.S. President, the State Department announced on Monday the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious list of States Sponsors of Terrorism.

Cuban Foreign Minister promptly and strongly condemned the Administration's last-ditch measure to entangle a possible future normalization of relations between Washington and Havana.

"We condemn the hypocritical and cynical designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, announced by the United States. The political opportunism of this action is recognized by all who have an honest concern for the scourge of terrorism and its victims," Bruno Parrilla wrote on Twitter.

Numerous voices took to the social media network to condemn the decision, described as a malicious and politically motivated act.

Reacting to the news, the Democratic Senator from Vermont, Patrick Leahy, described the measure as "a blatantly politicized designation... and that domestic terrorism in the United States poses a far greater threat to Americans than Cuba does," he said.

For her part, Cuba's solidarity activist Gloria La Riva wrote on Twitter:  "The world knows that Cuba is not a state sponsor of terrorism. It's the other way around. Cuba has suffered 3,478 Cuban citizens murdered and 2,099 people injured, almost all due to U.S.-supported, trained, financed, armed terrorists. The U.S. sends bombs, Cuba sends doctors.

Cuba was first put on the contentious list in 1982 by the Reagan administration and was removed on May 29, 2015. The removal was considered one of the Obama Administration's main foreign policy achievements, and it was an effort endorsed by Joe Biden as his vice president.
