Havana, Feb 25 (RHC) Cuba reported on Thursday 670 new cases of Covid-19, the lowest figure in the last 21 days, the National Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Durán, said.

To date, the Caribbean island has diagnosed 47,566 people with the SARS-CoV-2 virus;.

During his televised address, the epidemiologist regretted four people's death due to complications associated with the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 312.

"Having for two consecutive days lower figures than those reported in previous weeks does not mean that stability has been achieved, and it is necessary to reinforce health measures and care," he stressed.

The specialist said that by midnight, 19,487 people remain hospitalized, 3,157 were suspected, 11,941 are under surveillance, and 4,389 were active cases.

On the other hand, 61 patients are in intensive care, 28 of them serious and 33 critical, while 4,328 are in stable clinical evolution.

The day before, 906 people left the hospitals convalescent, and the total number of people recovered from Covid-19 in this country amounts to 42,809.

The epidemiology director said that 18,337 samples were studied for the detection of new cases.

To date, 87.3 percent of all the children infected in Cuba have been discharged from hospital, while one child remains in serious condition.

5,274 children have suffered Covid-19 on the island.

The incidence rate in this Caribbean country is 109.8 per 100,000 inhabitants and a lethality rate of 0.66 percent, lower than that recorded worldwide (2.21) and in the Americas (2.37).

"So far in February, 19,974 patients have contracted the coronavirus, and 96 have died. These are the highest figures during almost a year of Covid-19 presence throughout the national territory," concluded Durán.
