Havana, April 17 (RHC) -- Delegates to the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba stressed on Saturday the importance of culture and the mastery of history against subversion plans against the island.

As part of the commission's analysis on politics and ideology, the attendees agreed on the need to reinforce and strengthen teachers' preparation.

Likewise, they analyzed the new generations' role in the face of subversive campaigns and colonizing trends about which the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raúl Castro, warned in his Main Report to the meeting.

¨Cuba's artists and intellectuals have overwhelmingly accompanied the revolutionary process, so do not get confused in social media networks, however efficient they may seem to be. Here the Revolution is in the streets and the people's hearts, said the renowned writer Miguel Barnet.

For his part, the director of Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto, emphasized that the contemporary and cultural crisis is focused on transmitting a message about the importance of the present, 'to make believe that everything old is discarded, that everything is old-fashioned and this is an element used by the enemy'.

In his Report, Raul Castro recalled the creation by the U.S. government of the Internet Working Group for Cuba, which 'aspires to turn social media networks into channels of subversion'.

He also denounced once again that Washington's falsehoods are spread by 'the powerful information media at the service of imperialism and digital networks designed to influence the thinking of many, including some of our compatriots'.

In recent days, Cuban media outlets presented testimonies of intellectuals, artists, authorities and former agents of the Cuban State security that show how the United States and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) encourage the formation of opinion leaders who generate destabilization actions in the Caribbean nation.

According to the Cuba Money Project, since 1990, the U.S. government has allocated more than 260 million dollars to subversion against Cuba.
