Havana, June 16 (RHC)--Cuba received other groups of illegal emigrants, returned by the U.S. Coast Guard, the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) announced Monday.

According to a press release, 59 participants in four exits by sea arrived on the 14th and 15th of June at Orozco Bay, in Bahía Honda municipality, in Artemisa province (west of Havana), where they were handed over to the island's authorities.

The illegal migrants left the island from various locations along the northern coast of Matanzas, Mayabeque, Ciego de Avila and Artemisa provinces, aboard makeshift crafts lacking elementary conditions for navigation and life-saving means, endangering their lives, the source said.

After complying with the sanitary protocols oriented for these cases, these people were transferred to a center of the Identification, Immigration and Foreigners Directorate of MININT to comply with the hygiene and epidemiology procedures of rigor.

These steps establish that all persons entering the country must undergo a PCR test and and enter an isolation center for the required quarantine period.

The return complies with part of the provisions of the Cuba-United States Joint Declaration of January 12, 2017, in which both governments ratified the commitment to ensure regular, safe, and orderly migration.

This responsibility demands full and effective compliance with bilateral migration agreements, the note stated.
