Ottawa, June 17 (RHC)-- Cuba solidarity organizations in Canada have called for caravans of automobiles next Sunday, June 20, to demand the end of the U.S. blockade against the island, they announced on social media.

The Juan Gualberto Gómez Association, the Canadian Network of Solidarity with Cuba, the Bridges of Love project, and other groups are preparing initiatives against the unilateral siege in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Victoria, and Ottawa.

In this way, they will join people from other cities worldwide who will call this weekend for the elimination of the economic sanctions that suffocate the Cuban people.

These initiatives will take place a few days before the U.N. General Assembly votes on June 23 on a new resolution demanding the United States to end the blockade against the largest Caribbean island.

In connection with this event, the Canadian Cuba Solidarity Network has called for participation in a 24-hour virtual meeting from June 22 to 23 with speakers, cultural presentations, and live transmission of what will occur at the United Nations.

It is estimated that between April 2019 and December 2020, Washington's blockade caused the Caribbean nation damages of more than nine billion dollars. Still, the human damage, suffering, and shortages caused to families are incalculable, said the island's Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez.

U.S. President Joe Biden and other White House officials have reiterated that Cuba is not a priority issue for their government, and despite electoral promises, they have kept intact the 243 punitive measures imposed by the previous president, Donald Trump.
