Havana, June 24 (RHC)--Venezuela is the first country to receive a Cuban vaccine candidate Abdala, which arrived in the South American nation on Thursday.

Venezuelan Vice-President Delcy Rodríguez, accompanied by the Cuban Ambassador in Caracas, Dagoberto Rodríguez, informed about the arrival of the Cuban-made antiviral drug which has achieved a 92.28 % efficacy with its three-dose schedule.

Rodriguez advanced that this vaccine will be incorporated into the national immunization plan underway in her country with the Russian antigens Sputnik V and the Chinese Vero Cell.

"It is a triumph to count on Abdala," said Rodríguez, who affirmed that the contract signed between Cuba and Venezuela is for the supply of twelve million vaccines in the next months.

The name of this compound was taken from the title of a well-known dramatic poem by Cuban National Hero and writer José Martí.

In addition, Cuba recently announced that another vaccine candidate against the coronavirus, Soberana 02, showed 62% efficacy in its two-dose schedule.
