Havana, Aug 26 (RHC)--A plane from Italy arrived in Cuba on Thursday with some 200 cubic meters of humanitarian aid to contribute to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic on the island.

The cargo includes pulmonary respirators, generic medicines for comorbidity and associated symptoms, hospital antibiotics, health supplies, and rapid tests for detecting the SARS Cov-2 coronavirus, donated by organizations and individuals from Italy, Spain, and France, and Cubans residing in those countries.

Upon the ship's arrival at Havana's José Martí International Airport, the president of the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC), Michele Curto, affirmed that the collection was made possible by the immediate response to the Set our Hearts to Cuba campaign.

He pointed out that in three weeks, they collected almost one and a half million Euros to purchase medicines, supplies, and equipment to help the Cuban people, an effort that, he said, will continue as long as necessary.

In thanking the donation, the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González, highlighted the work of organizations, institutions, and people who voluntarily participated in this campaign.

In the face of the tightening of the U.S. blockade, solidarity is increasing, he said, while ratifying Cuba's will to build an increasingly fair and equitable society.
