Havana, September 25 (RHC)-- The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology reported through its Twitter account that the Cuban government has sent to Vietnam the first batch of anti-COVID Abdala vaccine developed by that scientific institution.

The tweet noted that the productive platform of the drug is used in other immunogens registered in more than 30 countries and certified by the World Health Organization.

On September 20th, as part of the visit to Havana of the President of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Contract for the supply and distribution of five million doses of Abdala vaccine was signed. CIGB General Director Marta Ayala and Nguyen Dang Hien, director of the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Medical Biological Products (Polyvac), both signed the document. Ayala then declared that they worked on the completion of the documentation required to approve the emergency use of this immunogen in Vietnamese territory and highlighted the endorsement of Polyvac, considered one of the most prestigious agencies in the Asian region.  She specified that these doses will be used both in adult and child population in Hanoi.

The Vietnamese government decided to buy 10 million doses of the immunogen from Cuba to be administered in emergency situations, which coincided with Xuan Phuc's visit to the island.  A governmental resolution instructed the Ministry of Health to carry out the transaction and, in coordination with local specialized agencies, to carry out the necessary tests to validate them.
