Bridges of Love in the UK calls for end of U.S. blockade of Cuba

London, September 25 (RHC)-- Britons, Cubans and Latin Americans living in the United Kingdom gathered this Saturday in a central corner of North London to express their opposition to the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

"Cuba Yes, Blockade No" was the slogan shouted by the demonstrators in the populous London neighborhood of Seven Sisters, where they explained to passers-by the impact of the unilateral measure imposed by Washington on Havana for almost six decades.

Miriam Palacios, from Cubans in the UK, denounced that the extraterritorial nature of the sanctions prevents Cuba from acquiring food and medicines in other countries, even to alleviate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic or to produce its own vaccines.

Solidarity is the only answer, said Palacios, who urged to redouble international support for the Cuban people as part of the international campaign "Bridges of Love."

Colombian Yonatan Mosquera pointed out that the island is being punished by the United States for the only crime of wanting to choose its destiny.

For his compatriot Tais, his presence at this Saturday's demonstration in North London was due to the need to denounce the blockade of the Caribbean nation and counteract U.S. propaganda, he explained to Prensa Latina.

Andres Mendoza, of Ecuadorian parents and a member of the British Communist League, said that the source of U.S. hostility towards Cuba is the Revolution that triumphed in 1959, which demonstrated that the working class was capable of fighting for its rights and taking power.

The activist also celebrated the presence in the demonstration, called by Cubans in UK, of representatives of other organizations such as Rock Around the Blockade, the Campaign of Solidarity with Bolivia and people without political affiliation, who came to express their support to the people of the Antillean country.

The Cuba Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom reported that members of this organization, which groups thousands of activists who are friends of the island, also took to the streets in Glasgow, Scotland, and Northampton, England, to denounce Washington's blockade.
