Havana, October 25 (RHC)-- The proposed new Procedural Code being debated by Cuba's National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) should reinforce the climate of legality in the country, said Ruben Remigio Ferro, president of the Supreme Court, on Monday.

Presenting the regulation before the legislators gathered virtually, the jurist explained that the legal body strengthens the powers of the courts to enforce their decisions, which has a favorable impact on the climate of legality in society.

The Procedural Code replaces the current Law on Civil, Administrative, Labor, and Economic Procedures. It regulates procedures related to a group of areas of law, such as commercial and family law, among others.

The deputies were briefed on modifications introduced to the proposed law after consultations with experts, citizens' opinions, and the criteria of representatives from all over the country.

About 650 suggestions were gathered, and about 420 were included, which led to changes in 227 articles, 22 of them with substantial transformations.

The regulation, which will be submitted for approval at the next ordinary session of the National Assembly set for October 27 and 28, could enter into force in January 2022.

Some of the elements foreseen therein are the intervention of the prosecutor and the public defender in matters involving minors or persons in vulnerable conditions.

Also described are the financial measures, i.e., the measures that the court may adopt with the person who shows reluctance to comply with court decisions.

The postulates of this body of law also took into account the precepts of the preliminary draft of the Family Code Law, with which they are in harmony.
