Havana, November 2 (RHC)-- Cuba's Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez, reaffirmed the importance of the sector for the return to normality in the country, as national services are reestablished.

In a press conference on Tuesday, the minister explained how itineraries have gradually resumed since October 25, restrictions for mobility in the localities were lifted, and interprovincial transportation began.

According to the availability of aircrafts, national flights will return in the next few days, while maritime transportation to and from the special municipality of Isle of Youth should begin on November 5, said Rodriguez.

From October 25 to 30, more than 90 thousand tickets were sold for national transportation, around 58 percent of them through digital means.

The minister highlighted the linkage of the state and private sector in support of the fight against Covid-19, both in the transfer of medical personnel, patients, medicines, laboratory tests, medical oxygen, donations, and other priorities, as part of these activities.

He also highlighted the work of the cargo transportations, which, despite the effects on fuel and spare parts, have not stopped.

During his press conference, Minister Rodriguez, said Cuba’s international airports are getting ready. Currently, there are 4 weekly flights from the US. He said that upon requests from US airlines, Cuba has authorized  67 weekly flights to Havana and 147 throughout the country.

He cautioned that the materialization of those flights will depend on US authorities' permission.
