Cayo Santamaría, Cuba, December 9 (RHC)-- Cuba expects to receive at least 2.3 million tourists in 2022, according to Juan Carlos García, minister of the sector, during a press conference in connection with the III International Tourism Exchange Gaviota 2021.

According to the official, more than 50 thousand visitors arrived in the country in November, mainly travelers from Russia, and none of them tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19.

He noted that the Russian market is the fastest growing at this stage, as the figures indicate, with 170 thousand tourists in 2021; so that together with Canada, they become the main issuing countries.

García highlighted that the portfolio of investment opportunities with foreign capital contemplates 106 new projects related to the sector and informed that by 2022 four thousand new rooms will be created in the country's hotel networks.

He insisted on developing family tourism and pointed out that there would be no limitations in direct contact with the Cuban people.

The minister pointed out that 160 events are planned for the coming year and highlighted that the Ibero-American Summit on Accessible Tourism would be held at the National Hotel in Havana from December 15 to 17, for the first time in Latin America.

He also said that in 2022, the Habana Libre and Nacional hotels would undergo investments to improve their structure.
