Havana, December 16 (RHC)--The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) informed Wednesday in a press release that as a result of epidemiological surveillance, this December 15, four imported cases of the Ómicron variant of Sars-Cov2  were identified in sequencing studies.

They are four travelers coming from the African continent. Two of them are Cuban collaborators belonging to the Cuba-Hydraulic Company who returned from South Africa and remained quarantined since their arrival, being confirmed as cases of COVID-19 on the 11th and 13th of this month.

The other two cases are foreign travelers from Kenya, one Ethiopian and the other Somali, who arrived on December 13. They were checked at the border with PCR-RT in compliance with the protocol established in the country and tested positive yesterday and have been isolated since then.

The Ministry reports that in the focus control work of the foreign travelers in the municipality of Centro Habana, four direct contacts have been identified, all of them checked and negative. The rest of the travelers on the flight on which the confirmed cases arrived were negative.

The cases diagnosed with the Omicron variant are in good health and remain asymptomatic.

Epidemiological surveillance of contacts, the community, and the reinforcement of international health control measures are being maintained.
