Havana, February 1 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, highlighted Tuesday the role of science and innovation in the strategic planning of the transformations taking place in the country.

Speaking a the session of the National Innovation Council, the president reflected on the importance of government management in supporting this process.

"One of the formulas is that in all macro programs, programs and projects there is an advisory group, that is, that the concept of expert knowledge is present from the origin of the work, which gives a strength to the country's strategic planning that places it in a different dimension," he said.

For his part, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil (in the photo below), valued the integration of organizations and businessmen in this process.

He pointed out that the biggest challenge of Cuba's Economic Development Plan until 2030 is how to advance in that purpose.

"The mechanism we have identified for this is through the development of macro programs, programs and projects, which implies a design of those issues that are most important for the structural and institutional transformation, and the strategic advancement of the nation," he said.

As part of the meeting's work agenda, Gil updated on the role of innovation in the country's six macro programs.

He recalled that these emerged as an instrument to manage the implementation of the National Economic and Social Development Plan, and each of them coincides with one of its strategic axes.

"So far, 28 programs and 107 projects have been designed," said the Minister of Economy and Planning.
