Havana, May 14 (RHC)-- The implementation of Cuba's economic and social strategy in the post-Covid-19 pandemic stage is the focus of this Saturday's debates at the fifth extraordinary session of the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament).

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil, will present to parliamentarians the results of this stage and the projections for the remainder of the year.

Cuba projected a four percent growth of its gross domestic product in 2022, despite the tense and exceptional economic situation the country is experiencing due to the tightening of the U.S. blockade and the crisis caused by Covid-19.

The working agenda for this first day includes the presentation of the results of the popular consultation on the new Family Code, which will be submitted to a referendum to be called by the parliament.

The more than 600 deputies that make up the island's legislative body will begin the discussion and voting of eight bills that give legal continuity to the 2019 Constitution.

This process and the analysis of control actions to agencies of the central administration of the State and provincial governments are included in the agenda that includes activities until Monday, May 16.

As a background to the extraordinary session, this Friday, the meetings of the 11 working commissions of the Assembly were held, in which the opinions of the bills were approved, and other agreements on the progress of social and economic programs were approved.
