Mexico City, May 17 (RHC)-- Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador described as a positive step the newly announced measures on Cuba by the Biden Administration.

However, he said he would like US President Joe Biden to lift the blockade on the island, which he said violates human rights, is medieval, genocidal and has nothing to do with fraternity.

At his morning press conference on Tuesday, López Obrador responded to a question about the suspension of some of the measures announced by Biden.

"It is an initial step in the right direction, but they are two different things concerning the demand for an inclusive Summit of the Americas, not exclusive as the one convened," he clarified to journalists.

He added that the Summit is part of the same thing because it denies a country the sovereign right of its people to have the form of government it wishes, and no nation, no matter how powerful it may be, can intervene in another nation's internal affairs, he affirmed.

He recalled the famous phrase by Benito Juarez stating that among individuals and nations, respect for the rights of others is peace. It is a matter of principle, and we will wait and see what happens, said López Obrador.
