Havana, July 6 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the example and legacy of Raúl Roa Garica, known as the Foreign Minister of Dignity, 40 years after his death.

On his official Twitter account, the president pointed out that "the foreign policy of the Cuban Revolution, the work of Fidel Castro's political genius, had its most faithful and original interpreter in the diplomat".

Roa was born in Havana on April 18, 1907, studied law at the University of Havana and from a young age was linked to the revolutionary movement.

After the triumph of January 1959, he was appointed ambassador to the Organization of American States and later Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He died on July 6, 1982, at the age of 73 -- 40 years ago today.

On that Tuesday, thousands of people paid tribute to him at the Aula Magna of the University of Havana, with the honor guard of historic leader of our Revolution, Fidel Castro.

His long and intense performance at the head of the revolutionary diplomacy and his battles at the headquarters of international organizations in defense of Cuba's sovereignty earned him the name of Foreign Minister of Dignity.
