Havana, July 22 (RHC)--  Cuban President  Miguel Díaz-Canel, explained Friday to deputies of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) the actions being undertaken to recover the country's power generation capacity.

Speaking on the second day of the ninth ordinary session of the legislative body, the President said that as part of the energy recovery strategy, negotiations are underway to increase electricity production for the remainder of the year.

He added that resources had been negotiated to carry out repairs, and investments in renewable energy sources are underway.

He added that it is necessary to achieve a better load organization during peak demand, guarantee quality in maintenance and repairs, better plan blackouts, and save as much as possible.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that to affect the population as little as possible, the economy has been harmed by the stopping of important productive processes.

Likewise, he denounced the actions of certain citizens who, in the face of the service disruptions, vandalize and resort to social indiscipline.

He stated that he acknowledged that people might be upset, but to act this way is to be in line with the enemy's plan, not that of the Cuban Revolution, which is betting on solidarity and resistance.

"Imperialism is not the one that will solve the energy problem in Cuba because precisely, the U.S. blockade is the fundamental cause of the current electricity generation situation in the country," he stressed.

Diaz-Canel added that the Cuban blackouts are perhaps the most famous because of all the propaganda against the island. Still, in the world, there is an energy crisis with an increase in electricity rates due to the rise in oil prices.

He also pointed out that the current power generation situation in the country is the result of the impact of the U.S. blockade, gaps in the distribution of fuel due to low availability, and the occurrence of two accidents that have taken out more than 400 megawatts of generation.

The Cuban President was speaking during a debate taking place in Parliament to assess the results of the Ministry of Energy and Mines during the year 2021.
