Madrid, July 29 (RHC)-- Cuba and Galicia strengthened historical ties with the inauguration in Láncara of the Angel Castro house museum on the 30th anniversary of Fidel Castro's visit to his father's birthplace.
The opening of the facility, called Angel Castro House Museum and Interpretation Center of the Galician emigration, held on Thursday, was attended by personalities, official sources reported.
The ceremony in the small Galician town in the province of Lugo was attended by the president of the Provincial Council, José Tomé Roca, the territorial delegate of the Galician Government in Lugo, Javier Arias Fouz, and direct relatives such as Emma, sister of Fidel and Raúl, Mariela Castro, daughter of Raúl, and Marité López, second cousin, among others.
"I am pleased that the destiny given to the house of that generous and noble Galician with the surname Castro, as described by Fidel, serves to pay tribute to the sons of Galicia who crossed the Atlantic and their descendants," said Raul Castro in a message read by Mariela.
Local residents, Galicians from nearby cities, Cubans living in various parts of Europe, and representatives of various political parties and solidarity groups in Galicia, attended the event to remember Angel Castro Argiz, "a Galician who emigrated to Cuba where he planted trees that still flourish".
This closes a cycle of several years of intense work to achieve the remodeling and restoration of the house and turn it into a reference center and archive of the great epic of the Galician emigration to the Americas.
The Choir of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago was in charge of interpreting the anthems of Galicia and Cuba on a day the Cuban delegation was received at the City Hall of Láncara.
