Havana, August 31 (RHC)-- The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDRs) of Cuba will arrive on September 28 at their 62nd anniversary amid a revitalization and strengthening process.

So said their national coordinator, Gerardo Hernández, at a press conference in Havana.

A former Cuban Five and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Hernandez highlighted the importance of the CDRs and their vigilance work, "when the counterrevolution makes constant calls to sabotage in the communities," he indicated.

"We as CDRs have a vital role in surveillance and protection of our neighborhoods, communities, of our citizen tranquility in general," he said.

He stressed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization's relevance was boosted, since its members helped identify vulnerable people, organize vaccination drives, and establish aid systems.

Hernández explained that the biggest mass organization in the country had active participation in the consultation process of the new Family Code. For the next popular referendum, they plan to carry out actions aimed at protecting and updating the lists of voters, as well as promoting citizen participation.

"The call to our CDR community is to go out and vote that day for a code that does not compel anyone to have a certain type of family, even though that is what the enemies of the Revolution proclaim," he pointed out.

According to the CDRs national ideological secretary, Yanelys Tablada, for the celebration of the 62nd anniversary, photography and painting contests and mini-recycling festivals will be held to contribute to the country's economy.

In addition, 46 Neighborhood Awards will be given in recognition of citizens, families, and schools that have had outstanding participation in CDR tasks.

The VI plenary session of the CDR national leadership will also take place, where they will evaluate the organization's work and the challenges for future stages.
