Havana, September 7 (RHC)-- Dr. José Angel Portal Miranda, Cuba's Minister of Public Health, and Dionisio Cumbá, his counterpart from the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, held a meeting Wednesday on medical collaboration and the willingness to expand ties between the two countries.

Cumbá thanked the Cuban government for the help offered during the months of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted the spirit of solidarity of cooperation and the work of the island's medical brigade in that nation.

We are aware of the country's difficulties, and we are also mindful of the internationalism that characterizes the health collaborators, said the doctor.

Portal Miranda acknowledged the humanistic and philanthropic work carried out by health workers in different parts of the world and mentioned that Cuba currently has health professionals in 59 territories.

He ratified the willingness to continue and expand the training of specialists to contribute to solving the country's health problems through training and hospital assistance.

There are currently 34 collaborators working in Guinea-Bissau and the "Raúl Díaz Arguelles" School of Medicine, which celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2021 with the historic graduation of 557 general practitioners and 85 in the specialty of General Comprehensive Medicine.

A total of 664 physicians graduated in Cuba and in this educational institution as a result of the link between the two nations.
