Havana, Sep 20 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the respect for children's rights in the new Family Code, especially the condemnation of manifestations of violence against this group.

In his Twitter account, the president stressed that children and adolescents should be accompanied in the development of their personality by their fathers and mothers, in a harmonious relationship, and added that respect and love should prevail in this relationship.

He added that their growth must be free from any manifestation of violence, which the new legislation states.

The Family Code, which will be submitted to popular vote for its entry into force, contains in its articles three specific chapters dedicated to the protection of minors, where their rights in the family environment are regulated and their best interest is established as a principle that governs the norm.

In particular, Article 5, paragraph G, states the right of children to grow up in an environment free of violence and to be protected against any type of discrimination, abuse, negligence, prejudice or exploitation.

This is complemented with actions to which persons who incur in such violations may be subjected.

Another relevant aspect of the new legislation is that it recognizes the progressive autonomy of minors, which grants them the right to be heard and taken into account in the decisions that concern them, in accordance with their psychological and physical development. (Source: Prensa Latina)
