Authorities in the Caribbean nation have repeatedly denounced the disinformation campaigns being waged by Facebook accounts.

Havana, Sep 20 (RHC) The Presidency of the Republic of Cuba denounced the appearance of fake accounts on the social network Facebook and warned users not to follow them.

On its official Twitter page it warned that these accounts are in the name of the Vice Presidency of the Republic of Cuba and Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa and clarified that the Cuban top leader only has one, and it is on Twitter.

The authorities of the Caribbean nation have repeatedly denounced the disinformation campaigns mainly from the United States to discredit the country and misrepresent many aspects of the Cuban reality.

These campaigns even appeal to the proliferation of fake news, and are managed by detractors of the Cuban social project to promote the discontent of the population in view of the difficulties faced by the country, mainly due to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the island.

Ignoring the incidence of that policy for more than 62 years, they try to impose opinion matrixes by describing the Cuban State as "failed" and openly call for uprisings against the government, arguing lack of democracy and freedom.

In line with the development of new technologies and the growing access of the Cuban population to the Internet, these campaigns have gained strength in recent years in social networks, in which the creation of false accounts, such as those denounced today, has been one of the practices used to cause confusion, analysts assure (Source: Prensa Latina).
