Havana, October 13 (RHC)-- The representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Cuba (UNICEF), Alejandra Trossero visited the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV) in Havana on Thursday, where she learned details about national immunogens for children and adolescents.

On its Twitter account, the scientific institution also informed that the general director, Dr. Vicente Vérez Bencomo, shared the strategy for the development of vaccines for that age group.

Cuba exhibits favorable anti-COVID-19 vaccination rates, and was the first country to immunize its vaccinable pediatric population, which was a milestone not only for the largest Antillean island, but also for the world.

Since the diagnosis in Cuba of the first cases of the disease caused by SARS-COV-2, Unicef, in its joint work with national institutions of the health system, contributed to maintaining the vitality of essential services for children, adolescents and pregnant women.

Likewise, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, it accompanied the strengthening of institutional and technical capacities within the framework of the health emergency response plan for the implementation of vaccination against COVID-19 and the protection against contagion of health personnel and the population in general.
