Santiago de Chile, October 16 (RHC)-- A cultural activity took place this weekend in the commune of Santiago Centro with the aim of raising funds and buying electrical supplies for Cuba, after the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.

This is a peña organized by the friends of Cuba, which includes raffles, sale of handicrafts and some foodstuffs, to help the province of Pinar del Río, the person in charge of the cultural coordination, Liza Abarca, told Prensa Latina.

She explained that the objective is to make a quick campaign and acquire some electrical materials for a country that needs it so much.

"It is the land that I love the most, I know its people, its culture, I know the heart they have and I believe that with the hand that Cuba gave us in different opportunities to Chile, we can do the same for them", she said.

Luisita Ayress said that among the raffled works are engravings by Tato Ayress, a Chilean artist who lives in Cuba, and by the muralist Alejandro Mono González.

Our motivation for being here is to be able to express the affection we have always had for the Revolution and for the people who today are in need of help, she said.

Hurricane Ian hit western Cuba on September 27, where it destroyed homes, caused serious damage to agriculture, flooding in low-lying areas and affected the national electric service.

In Pinar del Río, the hardest hit province, almost 76,000 damages were recorded in the housing fund, of which 8,439 were total collapses.
