Garcia Granda informed that the event will promote the wellness products and services offered jointly by the Ministries of Tourism and Public Health.

Havana, Oct 18 (RHC), During the opening of the First International Fair on Medical Tourism and Wellness on Monday, Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García Granda said that the country has a high potential to be a reference in this field, worldwide.

"Health professionals, rigorous biosafety protocols and programs to improve the quality of life are the incentives to develop this modality, combined with Cuba's sun and beach destinations and natural environments," he said.

He said that international trends project health tourism as a major activity in the so-called smokeless industry.

The event will be attended by 58 foreign companies from 23 countries, as well as personalities from Cuba's medical sciences and other nations.

García Granda explained that the Fair, open until October 20, will promote the wellness products and services offered jointly by the Ministries of Tourism and Public Health, based on accessibility and a safe environment.

He informed that as part of its development plan until 2030, the sector contemplates the execution of 22 projects linked to health tourism, among which international clinics and a mineral-medicinal water spa stand out.

In the context of the Fair, the I International Seminar on Medical Tourism and Wellness will be held, where participants will exchange on marketing models and trends, and the II International Forum on Foreign Investment in the sector to delve into investment opportunities.

The opening of the event was attended by Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization; Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and head of the Department of Social Sector Attention; Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, and José Ángel Portal Miranda, head of Public Health.
