President Díaz-Canel welcomes the presence of foreign friends in Cuba

Havana, Oct 27 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel hailed the arrival in the Caribbean nation of foreign friends for their participation in the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (EIPCO), scheduled to take place from today until Saturday.

Through his Twitter account, the president mentioned that the event will take place for the first time in the Caribbean nation since its founding in 1998, and predicted, in this 22nd edition, the occurrence of fertile debates aimed at strengthening the struggle in favor of just causes.

According to the Government's official site on this social network, the space aims at the emergence of reflection, exchange, and collaboration, as well as the coordination of common positions and actions and global solidarity.

The meeting, planned from the capital's Palace of the Revolution, will gather 82 political forces in the world, of the 117 organizations that currently make up the EIPCO, formed thanks to the impulse of the Communist Party of Greece, in a context of uncertainty for the communist left.

Created a few years after the disintegration of the Socialist Camp in Europe and the Soviet Union, the grouping defends the premise “United we are stronger” and confronts, together with social and popular movements, capitalism and its policies, and the threat of fascism and war.

The meeting, which will generate a Final Declaration and a Plan of Action, also proposes the safeguarding of peace, environment, workers' rights, and socialism, in a current scenario mediated by war conflicts, economic crisis, and negative consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. (Source: PL)
